Unit of Competency

CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

Brief outline of training

Construction Induction training  provides persons entering the construction industry with a basic knowledge of requirements under WHS laws, including the consultation and communication process, common hazards and risks that are associated with working on construction sites, emergency procedures, incident reporting and how these risks should be controlled.

When looking for a job, or if you’re working on a building or construction site in New South Wales, SafeWork NSW - the State Work Health and Safety body, requires that you have completed an accredited safety training course, and that you hold a current Work Health and Safety Construction Induction Certificate (White Card or previously known as Green Card).

Apprentices

Self-employed persons

Trade persons

Supervisors and managers

Any person who works in, or is associated with the construction industry

NSW GIT cards issued under the WHS Regulation from 1 January 2012 and NSW construction induction cards (issued from 1 September 2009 to 31 December 2011) are recognised throughout Australia. The former NSW construction induction cards (issued between 29 March 2004 and 31 August 2009) are recognised in all jurisdictions other than Western Australia.

If you have previously completed general induction training, i.e. from 29th March 2004 onwards, you will not need to complete further training to work in NSW at this stage.

If you are 14 years or over or you want to re-enter the construction industry after an absence of 2 years, you are legally bound to gain the NSW Construction Induction card to work on a construction site in NSW.
